The Taiwanese American Association(TAA) of Capital District of  New York, Inc. was established in 1971, and incorporated as a not-for-profit organization under the name of Formosan Club of Capital District of New York in 1975. The Taiwanese American Association (TAA) is approved by and registered with NYS Department of State.

The purpose of TAA are: to foster, encourage, and promote the understanding of Taiwan, its people, history, culture, society, economy, government, and natural environment; to promote friendship among its member; and to improve communication between the Association and the greater local community.

TAA changed to the current name via a vote by the board of directors in 1984, and formally amended the name change with the NYS Department of State in 2014.
